The closest airports to Masseria San Giovanni are Brindisi Airport (25 miles, approximately 35 minutes) and Bari Airport (31 miles, approximately 45 minutes). Both airports offer direct flights from many major European cities, including London, Paris, Barcelona, Milan and Rome.

Important: Depending on your departure city, you may need to book two separate round-trip tickets, as many airlines serve only one of these airports.

Another great option is to fly into Rome or Naples and take the high-speed train to Bari. It's a comfortable, scenic journey and an easy way to experience a bit more of Italy before arriving in Puglia.

BY CAR

Puglia is not like Rome or Milan, the towns are small and cPuglia is best explored by car. Unlike larger cities such as Rome or Milan, the region is made up of small towns connected by scenic country roads, with many of its best beaches, restaurants and attractions spread throughout the countryside. Public transportation is limited, taxis can be difficult to find and ride-sharing services such as Uber are not available, so we strongly recommend renting a car for your stay.

If you're visiting from outside the European Union, Italian law requires you to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your valid driver's license. Fortunately, obtaining one is quick and easy, you can typically get an IDP the same day at your local AAA branch, and no driving test is required.

Please also note that the primary driver must present a credit card in their own name when picking up a rental car in Italy.

ETIAS Travel Requirement

Beginning in the last quarter of 2026, U.S. citizens will be required to obtain authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, or ETIAS, before traveling to many European countries, including Italy. The online application will cost €20 and should take only a few minutes to complete through the official ETIAS website or mobile app. Most applications are expected to be approved within minutes, although some may require additional processing.

The European Union has not yet announced the exact launch date, and no applications are being accepted at this time. We recommend applying once the official portal opens and well in advance of your trip. We’ll continue to update this page as additional details are confirmed, and you can also visit the official ETIAS website for the latest information.

Before you travel, please double-check that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date, as many countries require this for entry. Please note that taxi service is limited throughout this part of Puglia, and ride-sharing services such as Uber are not available. We highly recommend renting a car for the duration of your stay, as it's by far the easiest way to explore the region's charming towns, beaches and countryside.

We suggest reserving your rental car well in advance, as availability at both Bari and Brindisi airports can be limited, particularly during the spring and summer travel season.
